Westaff is recruiting for an experienced Production Assistant to support the Production Supervisor in overseeing daily operations within a very busy fabrication shop.  The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience in a fabrication environment and will be responsible for assisting in the coordination, training, and quality assurance of shop activities to ensure timely and accurate job completion.

Pay: $44.00 – 53.00 an hour DOE 

Shift: Monday – Friday, 700am-4pm with expected overtime, including weekends. 

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist the Production Supervisor in planning, scheduling, and assigning daily job tasks to fabrication employees.
• Ensure that tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with specifications and quality standards.
• Provide hands-on training and guidance to shop personnel for specific fabrication tasks as needed.
• Inspect and verify layouts, fit-ups, and other fabrication work to ensure accuracy and adherence to job requirements.
• Coordinate with the Receiving Department to ensure the materials are delivered to the correct locations to the shop for scheduled jobs.
• Monitor and help verify employee work hours and job time tracking to ensure accurate labor reporting.
• Act as liaison between production staff and management to maintain workflow and resolve any job-related issues.
• Maintain a clean and organized shop floor in compliance with company safety and housekeeping standards.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production processes and shop efficiency.

Qualifications:

• 3-5 years of supervisory or leadership experience required in a fabrication or industrial manufacturing environment, preferably involving heavy fabrication or refinery equipment (tube sheets, heat exchangers, etc.)
• Strong leadership skills with a focus on coaching, training, and supporting production staff to ensure skill development and task accuracy.
• Strong knowledge of fabrication processes, including layout, welding, fit-up, and material handling; familiarity with welding processes such as TIG, MIG or Stick.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and job specifications.
• Excellent organizational skills and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills for timekeeping, job tracking, or production software; familiarity with Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) preferred.
• Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance in a shop setting.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Forklift certification or ability to become certified.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish is a plus.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in a physically demanding environment (walking, standing, lifting, bending, etc. for extended periods in a shop environment)

Job Summary: Perform visual and dimensional inspections, conduct non-destructive testing on heat exchanger components and parts, and compile, prepare, and submit documentation to fully comply with internal policy and practices as well as customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Inspect for and verify heat lot number as material is brought into production.
• Check for accuracy and perform in process dimensional measurement of machined and/or fabricated parts using acceptable measuring devices and standards.
• Perform inspections on all completed parts and components applying appropriate tag (red, yellow, green).
• Perform layout or fit-up inspection when requested.
• Perform hardness tests and visual inspection before and after PWHT.
• Perform bundle inspections such as, but not limited to, skeletal assembly, in-process and final, before tube loading, and insertion into shell.
• Use prints to perform dimensional checks of completed parts and/or units.
• Observe hydro testing, verify hydro pressures, and inspect dry out procedure and dryness.
• Review and inspect painting requirements.
• Prepare completed units for shipment by installing or applying name plate, lettering, or others as required.
• Perform non-code NDE testing using acceptable procedures and standards.
• Check and re-calibrate tools and equipment as instructed on a continuous and on-going basis.
• Set up and perform assignments based on shop practices and procedures.
• Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner, avoiding all unsafe practices.
• Prepare the QC data file for each job after completion ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent; or relevant experience, sufficient product knowledge/welding procedures.

 Skills – Proficiency in reading and writing English language, blueprint reading, job shop/field fabrication work experience required.  A level 1 or 2 technician in Magnetic Particle & Penetrant Testing.

Previous experience with ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 and NBIC, Positive Material Identification and material receiving is desired.

The successful candidate will be detail focused; possess a strong work ethic, and as needed support a variety of facility projects. Will be expected to work on a rotating weekend schedule; evening call outs may also be required from time to time.  Proficient knowledge of MS Office suite of tools – Word, Excel, etc.

The successful candidate must be willing to be trained in a variety of areas including the facility QC processes and material receiving efforts.
