TIG Welder / Fabricator

Pay: $20–$24 per hour
Location: Southwest Indianapolis, IN
Shifts available:

• 1st shift: Monday–Friday, 5:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.

• 2nd shift: 3:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m.

Westaff is hiring a TIG Welder / Fabricator with 1–3 years of welding experience for a manufacturing client in Southwest Indianapolis. TIG welding experience is required.

In this Welder II role, you’ll read blueprints, fit and weld components, and fabricate production parts, complex prototypes, and special pieces to customer specifications. The work combines welding, fabrication, layout, and quality inspection.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform TIG welding to specified requirements and use MIG welding as needed.

• Read customer and engineering drawings to determine fabrication methods.

• Calculate blank sizes and component dimensions from blueprints.

• Cut, form, fit, and assemble components using shop equipment.

• Position and tack-weld parts for inspection before completing welds.

• Set up welding tables and fixtures to hold parts accurately.

• Build inspection fixtures using layout tools, height gauges, and other measuring equipment.

• Verify setup and routing instructions, inspect first pieces and in-process work, and track production status.

• Work with Engineering to develop shop methods for new parts and improve setup processes.

• Pass and maintain required welding certifications.

• Follow safety procedures, OSHA standards, and PPE requirements.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of welding experience, including hands-on TIG welding.

• Strong blueprint-reading skills, including welding symbols, dimensions, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

• Ability to use tape measures, manual calipers, and other inspection tools.

• Strong mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills.

• Shop math skills, including calculating dimensions and using trigonometry to lay out angles and lengths.

• Experience with fabrication processes such as bending, forming, brazing, pipefitting, machining, or band saw operation.

• Ability to pass the required fabrication test, applicable math tests, and welding certification tests.

• Own tools required for component fabrication.

Physical and Safety Requirements

• Lift up to 25 pounds without assistance; use assistance for heavier items.

• Wear required personal protective equipment and follow safe work practices.
