Machine Operator I

Pay: $21 per hour
Location: Southwest Indianapolis, IN
Shift: 2nd shift, 3:30 p.m.–2:00 a.m.

Westaff is hiring an entry-level Machine Operator for a manufacturing client in Southwest Indianapolis. This hands-on position includes training in an assigned production department, where you’ll learn to operate equipment, check part quality, and make minor machine adjustments. As your skills develop, you’ll work toward Operator II responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

Learn to operate production equipment with guidance from your Team Lead.
Make minor machine adjustments and report equipment or quality issues.
Follow setup sheets and routing instructions with assistance to produce parts to required dimensions.
Perform quality inspections with verification from a team member.
Record production totals, scrap, rework, and the reasons for rejected parts.
Move parts to the next production operation and operate hand jacks.
Handle and load parts carefully to prevent damage.
Follow established procedures and apply feedback from your Team Lead.
Participate in required Toolbox meetings and continuous improvement activities.
Maintain reliable attendance and good working relationships with coworkers.
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Mechanical aptitude and basic shop math skills, including fractions and metric measurements; understanding decimals is preferred.
Ability to read a tape measure and manual or dial calipers.
Ability to read and follow production instructions.
Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
Willingness to learn equipment operation and follow consistent work procedures.

Physical and Tool Requirements

Ability to stand for an eight-hour shift or longer.
Ability to bend, twist, stoop, and lift and load parts into the work area.
Have basic tools for minor machine adjustments, including Allen wrenches, pliers, adjustable wrenches, a dead blow hammer, and a tape measure.
Zero-to-six-inch calipers may be required, with inspection certification.
