5th 6pm-6am

Primary Purpose of the Machine Operator:

Uses machines and equipment to assist with manufacturing, while performing specialized tasks to create and produce a standard or customized product.

 

 

Major Job Responsibilities of the Machine Operator:

  • Performs typical machine shop and press operations
  • Operates a press production, braid winding, lathe or crimping machine in accordance with established procedures and guidelines
  • Read, interpret and follow basic blueprints, diagrams, manufacturing drawings, bills of material or other written instructions or procedures.
  • Accurately record number of parts produced both good and scrap
  • Utilize hand tools such as a hand held screw driver and drill guns
  • Maintain inventory of product in work stations Perform quality work checks to insure the product meets quality standards Identify product defects and report it
  • Operate functional area equipment in a safe and efficient manner
  • Maintain safety, quality, productivity and housekeeping standards as required
  • Maintain accurate and timely data Report any safety problems, hazards, accidents and near misses to management
  • Adjust machine settings as necessary to complete assigned task Properly use safety equipment, including machine guarding, interlocks and safety curtains are working properly or report it
  • Able to troubleshoot and resolve simple quality product issues
  • Meet standards and tolerances
  • Other job tasks as assigned

Position Summary:

 Working independently to fabricate, repair or rebuild tools and die components using manual and CNC machine shop equipment.   

 

Essential Job Functions: 

Set-up and operate manual machines such as lathes, drill presses, saws & grinders

Keep the different parts of the machines in good condition. 

Keep all tooling in good condition.

Sharpen knives & scissors. 

Service steel rule dies (sharpening blades, replacing punches etc.). 

Perform basic mold repairs, i.e. repair mold marks, update date codes, make/change poppets, make simple tools etc. 

Perform intermediate mold repairs (re-fitting molds, fitting trim tools, finishing steel rule dies etc.). 

Perform Complex mold repairs (re-cutting molds, re-establishing closure dimension relationships, etc.). 

Assemble & dis-assemble dies. Sharpen dies using surface grinder & various hand tools.  

Set-Up, program & operate CNC mills and/or lathes.

Keep the different parts of the machines in good condition. 

Keep all tooling in good condition. Select appropriate tooling required for jobs.

Select proper work holding for various tasks. 

Anticipate steps required to complete a job from start to finish. 

Capable of reading blueprints and other tool design documentation. 

Fabricate complex tooling and components. 

Make recommendations to supervisors to improve the process flow.

Perform inspections of machined parts & understand G.D.T. requirements. 

Use various hand & power tools. 

Can work from formal blue prints, sketches or verbal instructions. 

Ability to completely plan a job from start to finish & anticipate all steps required to completion without assistance. 

 

General

May be required to work in other functional areas to meet business needs. 

Keep work area clean and organized, storing tools, parts, paperwork etc. in their proper locations. 

At least 18 years of age. 

5+ years of machining experience. 

CAD/CAM programing experience. 

CNC Machining/Operating/Set-Up/Programming experience. 

 

Education / Experience Required: 

High school diploma or GED or trade school or work experience. 

Basic math skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 

Valid driver’s license. 

MA 1C Hoisting License.
