Shift: 6am-2:30pm

Saw Operator Responsibilities:

• Use Marvel saw equipment to cut metal according to specified measurements.

• Safely handle materials and load/unload them onto the saw.

• Inspect cut pieces to ensure they meet quality standards before moving on to the next routing.

• Perform routine equipment maintenance.

• Perform cycle counts on raw material.

• Follow safety guidelines to maintain a safe work environment.

• Properly tag and deliver cut parts

• Use computer software to perform transactions and capture labor to each job

• Work with team members and assist in other areas as needed.

• Maximize efficiency and minimize waste

Saw Operators Requirements:

• High School Diploma or equivalent

• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings

• Fluent in written and spoken English

• Be able to identify and use basic hand tools

• Self–managed; team player

• Must be able to follow instructions and pay attention to detail

• Have a passion for doing a job well

• Basic math skills and ability to accurately read a tape measure

• Able to work overtime

• Willing to cross train in other work centers as needed

• Capability of learning manufacturing software being used on shop floor

• Must be able to perform the essential job requirements identified in the Functional Job Description for this position, including the ability to lift and move 50 lbs

Westaff is hiring for a 2nd Shift Extruder Operator in Putnam, CT!

Shift: Monday – Friday,  3:30pm – 11am 

Pay: $18-$20 an hour 

Extruder Operator Position Overview:

In this role, you will be responsible for the setup, operation, and maintenance of extrusion machinery used to produce high-quality fiber optic cable jackets and frucation tubing. The ideal candidate will be focused on ensuring efficiency, maintaining product quality, and reducing scrap to meet production goals.

Extruder Operator Key Responsibilities:

• Extrusion Setup:

  • Set up and adjust extrusion equipment for production, ensuring optimal settings for producing jacketed fiber optic cables and frucation tubing.

  • Load and prepare raw materials into the extrusion machine per specifications, minimizing waste during the process.

• Production Management:

  • Operate extrusion machinery to manufacture top-quality products while adhering to established safety and quality guidelines.

  • Continuously monitor the performance of machinery and product quality, making adjustments as needed to optimize efficiency and reduce scrap.

• Quality Control:

  • Regularly inspect and test extruded products to verify they meet specified requirements.

  • Track and document key production metrics such as efficiency, scrap rates, and any deviations from standard processes.

• Continuous Improvement:

  • Work closely with the team to identify opportunities for process improvements, focusing on increasing efficiency, enhancing quality, and minimizing waste.

  • Participate in training sessions to grow your technical skills and contribute to the team’s knowledge-sharing initiatives.

• Maintenance and Safety:

  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting on extrusion equipment to address mechanical issues promptly and prevent production delays.

  • Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for you and your teammates.

Extruder Operator Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical training in manufacturing or machining is a plus.

• Previous experience as an Extruder Operator or in a similar manufacturing role is highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of extrusion processes, materials, and machinery operation.

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and work instructions.

• Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to quality and productivity.

• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Extruder Operator Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for extended periods.

• Comfortable working in a manufacturing setting with exposure to machinery and raw materials.
