3rd Shift Pipe Shop Assistant – Job Description Summary The 3rd Shift Pipe Shop Assistant supports all overnight pipe-shop operations, including material handling, preparation, equipment support, and workspace organization. This role ensures smooth workflow for pipefitters, machinists, and welders by delivering materials, maintaining inventory, preparing tools, and assisting with production tasks as needed. The position requires attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and adherence to safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Material Handling & Preparation Retrieve, stage, and organize pipe materials, fittings, and components for production. Assist with cutting, cleaning, deburring, labeling, and prepping pipe segments. Ensure the correct materials are available for upcoming jobs and work orders. Operate basic shop equipment such as saws, grinders, or threading machines (if trained). Shop Support Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of debris to support safe operations. Replenish consumables (grinding wheels, cutting fluids, tags, chalk, gloves, etc.). Assist pipefitters and welders by gathering tools, setting up workstations, and moving materials. Perform simple tasks such as measuring, marking pipe, or supporting fixtures during assembly. Inventory & Documentation Track materials used during the shift and report shortages or discrepancies. Assist with cycle counts, labeling, and maintaining accurate stock levels. Update logs, tags, and work order documentation as required. Equipment Operation (If Certified) Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, overhead cranes, or hoists to move heavy materials. Conduct basic pre-shift equipment inspections and report issues promptly. Safety & Compliance Follow all company, OSHA, and shop-specific safety guidelines. Wear required PPE (gloves, goggles, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, etc.). Report hazards, equipment malfunctions, or unsafe conditions immediately. Maintain a safe and clean environment at all times.
