Location: Alexandria, LA Schedule: Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pay Range: $18–$25 per hour (Based on experience) Employment Type: Full-Time | Permanent
Position Overview A well-established CPA firm is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to join its team. This role requires more than basic transaction entry—candidates must have a solid understanding of accounting principles, general ledger management, and tax preparation support. The ideal applicant will understand how financial information flows through the accounting cycle and contributes to accurate tax filings.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage general ledger activity for multiple client accounts
- Post, review, and classify debits and credits with a strong understanding of account types
- Perform bank, credit card, loan, and account reconciliations
- Prepare journal entries, adjusting entries, and supporting documentation
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
- Prepare and support financial statements, including Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets
- Assist with tax preparation processes for both individual and business returns
- Compile documentation for income tax returns, payroll tax filings, and sales tax reporting
- Identify errors, misclassifications, and outstanding reconciliation issues
- Collaborate with CPAs and accounting staff to meet client deadlines
- Utilize QuickBooks Desktop and QuickBooks Online for bookkeeping functions
- Maintain clean, audit-ready files and accurate client records
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience in a CPA firm or professional accounting environment
- Strong, practical knowledge of:
- General ledger processes
- Debits and credits
- Account reconciliations
- Journal entries
- Accrual vs. cash accounting
- Prior tax preparation or tax support experience is required
- Proven ability to independently reconcile accounts
- Ability to prepare books for CPA review and tax submission
- High degree of accuracy, confidentiality, and attention to detail
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- Previous experience in a CPA firm or public accounting
- Familiarity with payroll tax, sales tax, and multi-entity bookkeeping
- QuickBooks certification
