Westaff is Hiring a 2nd Shift Tool & Die Maker for Auto Power Press in Farmington, CT!
Pay rate: $35 – $45 an hour, depending on experience
Shift: Monday – Friday, 2:30pm – 11:00pm
Tool & Die Maker Responsibilities:

Perform setup and maintenance of tooling, including first-piece inspection and quality submission.

Accurately document tool history and setup data, following established procedures (e.g., Brown Card system).

Notify supervisors of any required machine or tool maintenance related to production tooling.

Fabricate tools, components, fixtures, and gauges as directed by the area supervisor or technical lead.

Collaborate with the New Tool Group to support the smooth transition of new tools into production.

Assist in the standardization and organization of tooling component inventory.

Support the development of tooling and project cost estimates when requested.

Provide assistance to setup personnel in resolving tooling setup and production issues.

Support company managers on metal stamping and four-slide tooling projects, as needed.

Report updates or corrections needed on job travelers due to operational changes or additions.

Participate in the training and mentoring of apprentices within the department.
Tool & Die Maker Qualifications:

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the setup, troubleshooting, component fabrication, and production of progressive, compound, four-slide, and secondary tooling.

Certified Journeyperson with Connecticut-approved apprenticeship completion.

Proven ability to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for production manufacturing.

Hands-on experience using Statistical Process Control (SPC) in a production environment.

Solid background in progressive stamping operations.

Working knowledge of ISO quality standards, including practical experience applying them in a manufacturing setting.

Familiarity with medical and aerospace industry standards, including ISO 13485 and AS9100.

Understanding of Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Engineering principles.

Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing methodologies, such as Kaizen, Kanban, SMED, 5S, and other continuous improvement tools.

Exposure to Concurrent Engineering and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) practices.

Experience working with production standards, cost of quality, and various manufacturing methods.

Self-starter with a strong work ethic and a focus on production efficiency and results.
