Westaff is seeking a Community Coordinator for a local Non-Profit Organization in Alberton, MT!
Schedule: Part-Time 12 hours a week but can vary depending on the time of the year
Term: Temporary, July 2025 – May 2027
Pay: $17/hour
Duties:
- Perform administrative duties, public education and outreach, and coordinate activities with local government and other partners to support and enhance the objectives of the Town of Alberton’s goal of becoming a “Bear Smart Community”.
- Assist with administrative duties pertaining to funding parameters, oversee coordination of education events and bear conflict reduction projects, and assist the community with bear smart practices and bear aware education infrastructure approaches described in the community bear management and hazard assessment documents.
- Collaboratively with homeowners, participate in community meetings and provide regular updates to community leaders, facilitate delivery of bear-resistant garbage cans, occasionally patrol neighborhoods for bear activity/attractants, and provide information to residents regarding good stewardship practices.
- With assistance from Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, will track local natural bear food availability, types of human-bear conflicts, and trends in bear sightings.
- Provide timely end-of-the-year grant reports on number of bear-resistant receptacles placed, number of electric fence or attractant containment projects, number of education events, and updates on Alberton’s progress.
Qualifications:
- Excellent communication (written and verbal), problem solving and client service skills.
- Strong attention to detail
- Proficient computer skills (working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook).
- Ability to manage multiple demands and competing priorities in a deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and service-oriented manner.
- Relate with others in a professional manner in order to accomplish work responsibilities and objectives.
- Ability to maintain regular, predictable attendance.
- Work closely with the Bear Smart Alberton Working Group, the local Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Bear Manager, and the Outdoor Legacy Foundation.
