The Cost Estimator/Programmer/Machine Methods Specialist will be responsible for timely cost estimates of machined parts and assemblies using internal and 3rd party cost estimating tools/software. The individual filling this position is expected to work independently providing estimated costs that support sales pricing requirements and manufacturing’s target manufacturing cost structures.
This individual will have access to a significant database of historical actual costs as a sounding board for new parts and related features. The individual filling this position will require having strong computer skills, programming experience and a strong machining methods background.
This individual will work closely with Sales, Engineering and manufacturing. The ability to interact professionally with various departments in a rapid business pace is required. Software tools commonly used include Microsoft Office with Excel, Oracle ERP, internal quoting programs and third party Costimator software or equivalent.
Machine methods background is required. The products that are cost estimated by this individual are historically 85% turned and 15% milled +/-. Cylindrical grinding, surface grinding, gun drilling, welding and secondary plating and heat treatment are all part of the machine methods to be quoted. Materials are generally 300 and 400 Series Stainless Steels, aluminum alloys and titanium alloys.
An in-depth knowledge of speeds, feeds, tool selection and optimized manufacturing approaches is necessary. This position requires a strong ability to establish the estimated cost structure that defines manufacturing costs and sales generated quotes that when combined and executed drive the profitability of the organization.
