This position is responsible for sales, fitting eyeglasses, contact lenses, monitoring inventory of frames and contact lenses for all locations, reviewing price structures for opticals, optical purchasing, meeting with reps for updating inventory and returns, online research of products and accounts, auditing vision plans, reporting usage, profitability, training on proper filing, audit of payments of vision plans, training opticians on selling, types of lenses, new products, proper adjusting, measurements, and fitting techniques, benefits and correct usage when inputting patient data into computer program, using a lensometer, establish procedures for better flow of optical.


  • •High School Diploma or GED required.
  • •Highly prefer two – three years of experience in optical office.

Job Requirements


  • Has a working knowledge of the optical computer program, optical dispensary, and practice management system.
  • Creates optical reports needed from the practice management system.
  • Monitors optical inventory.
  • Examines written prescriptions to determine the specifications of lenses.
  • Recommends eyeglass frames and lenses including selection of color, shape, and size after considering the prescription and the customer’s occupation, habits, and facial features.
  • Measures patient’s eye
  • Prepares work orders needed for grinding and inserting lenses into frames
  • Verifies that lenses have been ground to specifications
  • Verifies that the patient’s eyeglasses fit the customer properly and comfortably.
  • Instruct patients about adapting to, wearing, and caring for glasses.
  • Advises and assists patients in selection of frames, lens, including selection of color shape and size
  • Orders and assists patients on care of glasses and other equipment use.  Responds to patient inquiries
  • Receives collection of payment from patient for eyewear for posting
  • Verifies invoice with lab statement
  • Monitors inventory of frames and contact lenses for all locations
  • Reviews price structures for optical
  • Meets with reps for updating inventory and returns
  • Online research of products and accounts
  • Audits vision plans, reports usage, profitability, and payments of vision plans
  • Trains on proper filing of insurance plans
  • Trains on using a lensometer
  • Establish procedures for better flow of optical. 
  • Monthly reviewing of invoices and charges.
  • Performs other duties assigned
  • Optical training in retail, fitting, lens technology, repairs


  • Cleans and restocks supplies in Optical
  • Changes bulbs and reloads paper in appropriate equipment
  • Orders supplies when running low
  • Responds easily to routine request for information
  • Fulfills any other office responsibilities, as necessary, to insure efficient patient flow and office efficiency.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times and communicates with the supervisor regarding procedural changes and concerns.
  • Participates in professional development efforts to remain current
  • Answers telephones, screens calls, takes messages and provides information when needed
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service programs
  • Maintains a clean, safe and prepared work area
  • Trains new employees for incoming duties
  • Keeps supervisor informed about efficiency issues, patient satisfaction issues and doctor issues.
  • Represents practice at community events, screenings, etc. as needed.
  • Performs other duties as requested.
