Westaff Awards Scholarship to Illinois Intern

WALNUT CREEK, CA, September 28, 2005

Westaff, Inc. has awarded a $3,000 scholarship to an Illinois State University senior for her outstanding work as a Westaff college intern. Dana White, 21, earned the award from Westaff (NASDAQ: WSTF), a leading provider of staffing services, for her work as an operator training project assistant at Hershey Chocolate & Confectionery Corporation in Robinson, Illinois.

"We're extremely excited," said Westaff's Robinson Branch Manager Lisa Pritts. "This is a small community. This award shows young people here that great things like this can happen even in a small town if you go out and put the effort into it and have an impact."

White, of Annapolis, Illinois, was nominated for Westaff's 2005 College Intern Scholarship Program Award for her "professional leadership behavior, exceptional organizational skills, initiative and strong problem-solving skills," said Carla Wesner, Hershey's Organizational Development and Training Manager, who supervised and nominated White. But besides her skills, Wesner added, White also brought an extraordinarily positive approach to the workplace: "Her enthusiastic, can-do attitude certainly became contagious to those working with her."

For White, a Human Resources Management major, the internship experience gave her a chance to apply what she was learning in school to the workplace. She was also able to take back to the classroom the practical experience she gained at Hershey's.

Her scholarship, she said, has gone directly to pay for tuition and has helped her avoid taking on a larger student loan debt.

"I'm very grateful to Westaff," White said. "I know a lot of students who have internships, but very few of them also get the chance at a scholarship."
Westaff organizes and sponsors the yearly scholarship program as a way of investing in America's future workforce.

"We don't take our employees' hard work for granted," said Trish Newman, Westaff's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Interns, in particular, come on board and bring a lot of passion to their jobs as well as creative ways to meet new business challenges. We want to recognize their contributions and invest in their futures."

Westaff is a Walnut Creek-headquartered international staffing company that places college students as summer interns with its client companies. Client companies nominate outstanding interns and a panel of Westaff senior executives chooses a winner. Nominees must have perfect attendance during their internships and demonstrate an exceptional work ethic.

Westaff provides staffing services and employment opportunities for businesses in global markets. Westaff annually employs approximately 150,000 people and services more than 15,000 client accounts from more than 230 offices located throughout the U.S., the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.
