Statesville, N.C., Resident Honored for Outstanding Work
During National Staffing Employee Week
STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, September 22, 2005 -- Westaff, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTF) announced today that Maria Palacio of Statesville, N.C., is the 2005-06 Westaff's Best Southeast Region Temporary Associate -- one of seven regional winners from around the country. Westaff's Best is an annual awards program sponsored by one of the country's top staffing and employment companies to honor the outstanding work of its temporary workforce.
"All of our awardees have one thing in common - an exceptional work ethic," said Trish Newman, Westaff's President and Chief Executive Officer. "Each of them has demonstrated a willingness to go the extra mile and to do it with a great attitude. That's something we never want to take for granted. And it's why I'm extremely pleased to salute and thank these talented employees who are a credit to their communities and to Westaff."
Palacio, who is hearing impaired, stood out in her work as a lead labeler for Terrisol Corporation, because of her determination to succeed, said Greg Mulkey, warehouse manager at Terrisol in Troutman, NC.
"She volunteers to stay late or come early and juggles her family life to work here," said Mulkey, who nominated Palacio. "We're very grateful that Westaff can provide that kind of quality employee to come and work for us. Maria is a leader. She instigates good Karma."
Palacio, 33, will be rewarded with an American Express Gift Check, a Certificate of Recognition from Westaff and other gifts.
"I am very happy and excited," Palacio said through an interpreter. "I am also very grateful to Westaff because they've put me in a job that helps my spirit grow. Everyone at this company pitches in and works well together."
Palacio has been a Westaff temporary employee for seven years. She has taught herself to read lips in English and in Spanish.
"She has overcome these obstacles by showing the same determination she has consistently shown in approaching her work," said Westaff Branch Manager Janet Gemes.
The awards program, now in its eighth year, coincides with National Staffing Employee Week. The week, September 19-25, is the American Staffing Association's (ASA) nationwide celebration of the country's 2.5 million temporary employees.
Staffing employees offer companies the flexibility they need to keep fully staffed during busy times. Eight out of ten client companies, according to the ASA, feel that temporary employees make good candidates for becoming permanent employees.
The staffing industry provides millions of employees with diverse and challenging assignments as well as free training to help meet today's demand for skilled workers. Over the past two years, staffing companies have created 500,000 new jobs.
Westaff provides staffing services and employment opportunities for businesses in global markets, servicing more than 15,000 client accounts from more than 230 offices located throughout the U.S., the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand. Westaff provides client companies with 150,000 temporary and permanent placement employees annually in the areas of administration, call centers and light industry.
