Brooke Army
Medical Center Information Booth Worker is a Life Saver
Walnut Creek, CA, August 26, 2003
Westaff,
Inc., (NASDAQ: WSTF) An information desk receptionist
at an Army medical center whose calm demeanor during
life-threatening emergencies has saved countless lives,
has been named the 2003-04 National Temporary Associate
of the Year by Westaff, a staffing and employment leader.
Annette Thomas-Singleton of San Antonio,
Texas, has been an information desk receptionist for
more than
three years at the Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort
Sam Houston, Texas. This wife and mother of two grown
children, who was nominated by the hospital for the
award, stood out as Westaff's best for her tireless
dedication and outstanding professionalism on the job.
Westaff's Best is an annual awards
program for outstanding temporary associates from one
of the country's premier
staffing and employment companies.
"Annette has made a tremendous impact
at Brooke Army Medical Center," said Frank Armendariz,
Westaff's
Regional Manager for the Southwest Region. "She's
done this through her passion in her work and her commitment
to the single most important role she has, which is
to respect every person who walks through the doors
at the hospital."
Westaff client Valerie Fox, Thomas-Singleton's
supervisor at the hospital, said Thomas-Singleton is
the most
team-oriented, hard-working person she has ever worked
with, calling her a "blessing" to the facility.
She does her job so well that she is regarded hospital-wide
as an expert on the place, and is known for her positive
caring manner with everyone she encounters.
Thomas-Singleton's most important task is notifying
the Code Blue Team of life-threatening situations,
Fox said. "She has saved countless lives over
the past several years due to her intuitive, sound
judgement and knowledge of the hospital's procedures
and operations."
The national award is being announced to coincide
with Labor Day, September 1, the yearly national tribute
to the contributions workers have made to the strength,
prosperity and well-being of our country.
Thomas-Singleton was chosen from among 17 regional
awardees and 140 branch awardees from around the country.
She will receive a weekend trip for two to San Francisco,
a Certificate of Recognition from Westaff, and numerous
other gifts.
"Working at the hospital gives me a chance to give
something back to those who helped me," said Thomas-Singleton,
who first came to the hospital as a visitor when her
husband, Donald, was ill. She said she enjoys being
there to assist and provide comfort to all the people
who rely on the facility.
Thomas-Singleton also recognizes the importance of
her job in emergencies. "You never get over being
nervous for the first half-second. But then it all
kicks in and I start doing what I need to do."
Westaff's awards program gives outstanding temporary
workers the recognition they deserve, said Westaff
President and CEO Dwight Pedersen: “Westaff is
proud to have Annette working for us and we thank her
for being such an outstanding associate and person.
She embodies the best values of our company by making
a real commitment to the success of the Brooke Army
Medical Center and to the community at large."
