Westaff Appoints Two New Board Members

WALNUT CREEK, CA, Wednesday, March 13, 2002
Westaff, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTF), announced today that Walter W. Macauley and Ronald D. Stevens have been appointed to the company's Board of Directors.

"Both Walter and Ron have a wealth of expertise that will be a great addition to our Board as Westaff continues our program of cost containment and initiates a multi-faceted program to increase sales," said Dwight S. Pedersen, Westaff's President and Chief Executive Officer. Westaff is a leading provider of temporary office, light industrial and light technical staff.

Mr. Macauley, 59, of Pebble Beach, has more than twenty years of experience in the staffing industry. His career began at Manpower, Inc., where he was Vice President, Sales and Marketing from 1974 to 1978. He was President and Chief Executive Officer and Director of Adia Services, Inc., from 1979 to 1992, and of Career Horizons from 1995 to 1996. In 1997, he also became Vice Chairman of AccuStaff, Inc. Mr. Macauley has a BA in Sociology from Yale University.

Mr. Macauley will serve on the Audit Committee and the Strategic Planning Committee. With a strong background in marketing, Mr. Macauley said he is looking forward to helping provide direction to Westaff as the economy begins to turn around.

"Westaff has a long, successful track record," he said. "With its national distribution of offices, it is well positioned to take advantage of an improving U.S. economy."

Mr. Stevens, who has a strong financial background, said he will focus on cost control and cost cutting as Chair of the Audit Committee and Compensation Committee.

"I feel I will be helpful to the board in getting the company to a much more profitable basis," he said.

Mr. Stevens, 58, of Danville, began his business career in 1967 with Arthur Andersen & Co. and became an audit partner at Andersen in 1977. He left the company at the end of 1990 and joined in opening Productivity Consulting Group, Inc. Since October 1996, he has been Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Robertson-Ceco Corporation in San Ramon. Mr. Stevens has a BA in Economics from the University of Illinois and an MBA from the University of Chicago.

The appointments became effective February 27.
