Franchise owner vows success in helping people find jobs
and companies find workers.
SCHENECTADY, New York, Monday, November 5, 2001 Westaff, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTF), has just opened a new, local staffing services franchise in Schenectady, New York, that will help reduce unemployment in the area and aid companies in finding the workers they need.
Affiliate owner Dave Mount, who also has franchise offices in New Hampshire and Vermont, said he is excited to bring Westaff to a community that has so much going for it, including a beautiful environment and a great college - Union College. Despite the nation's general economic downturn, including a 5.4% unemployment rate (a five-year high), Schenectady remains relatively strong.
"It's a thriving industrial market with a lot of successful companies like GE, Golub Corporation, MVP Health Care and Trustco Bank," Mount said. "These companies are good to work with and are good to their employees."
Another reason Mount decided to open the new branch, which will provide clerical and light industrial staffing services, is his desire to provide very local service that can quickly respond to Schenectady's business and employment needs, he said. The new office, which opened on Thursday, November 1, is located at 155 Erie Boulevard in a beautiful, historic building. Staffing the office will be Branch Manager Christie Collins of Loudonville, Marketing Manager Candi Percenti of Niskayuna, and Staffing Coordinator Jason Meeks of Schenectady.
The new Westaff franchise is Mount's seventh. Along with his wife, Fran, Mount runs six other Westaff franchises in Albany and Plattsburg, New York; Claremont and Lebanon, New Hampshire; and Burlington, Vermont.
Dave and Fran Mount have been in the staffing business for 19 years, including eleven years with Westaff, a leading, global provider of staffing services.
"This field is rewarding in a number of ways," Mount said. "We often put people in their first job or in their first significant job - and a large number of placements, about 40 percent, turn into permanent jobs. It's really great for us to see our people become permanent employees.
"Jobs mean people can support their families and become contributing members of society. They are the foundation of a healthy community," he said.
Westaff President and CEO Tom D. Seip congratulated Mr. Mount.
"I am very pleased for Schenectady, Dave, and Westaff," Seip said. "Dave is a highly successful businessman, the president of our affiliate board, and a leader in the staffing industry and in his community. I know he and Westaff will be good for Schenectady."
Westaff annually employs approximately 270,000 people worldwide and services approximately 25,000 clients from more than 350 offices located throughout the U.S., Mexico, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Norway and Denmark. Westaff achieved fiscal 2000 system revenues of more than $700 million. For more information about the Schenectady office, contact Susan Marquez Owen, Public Relations, at 925.952-2546.
